Family hour will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Mt. Olive Institutional Baptist Church, 1114 North 6th Street, with the funeral commencing at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Marvin T. Smith will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Evans & Browne's Funeral Home, 441 North Jefferson Avenue, on Wednesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m.
A service of memory celebrating the life of Ernestine O. Banks, who was born May 16, 1924 in Glendora, Mississippi and passed away June 19, 2012 at home at the age of 88 years. She was a member of Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Nurses Guild and Missionary Society.
Ernestine was a member of the Bright Star Chapter #22 OES, Amaranth-Blue Star Court #3, Heroines of Jericho, Lily of the Valley Court #2, Oasis Court #2, Daughter of the Sphinx, Royal Ladies Sheba Palace and the Unique Club. She was a former member of the American Legion, Study Culture Club, Zeta Amicae Auxiliary of Saginaw and the Women League Voters. She was a dedicated employee at Saginaw General Hospital as a Pediatrician Tech for over 30 years and UPJOHN Home Healthcare for 20 years.
Ernestine leaves not to mourn, but rather rejoice in having known and loved her, 2 children, Albert (Betty) Robinson and Ronald Davis, both of Saginaw, MI. She raised as her own, 3 grandchildren, Jimmie D. Beavers, Saginaw, MI, Tonya Beavers Young of Kuwait and Angella Beavers Staton, Saginaw, MI and 1 great-great-granddaughter, Adrienne (Jacques) Beavers, Saginaw, MI. She also leaves 11 grandchildren, Annette Robinson, Ernestine (Richard) Parker of Georgia, Dieardra (Terry) Beavers, Saginaw, MI, Corniethia (Marvell) Harvey, Grand Rapids, MI, Anthony Robinson of California, Clifford (Cora) Banks, Muskegon, MI, Vincent Davis, Saginaw, MI, Stacy (Reginald) Davis-Diggs, Saginaw, MI, Timothy Robinson, Grand Rapids, MI, Howard Robinson, Grand Rapids, MI and Tangela (Elvin) Owens, Saginaw, MI; 28 great-grandchildren, three of which she cared for daily, Serena Beavers, Saginaw, MI, La’Kishna Beavers, Flint, MI and Curtis Beavers, Flint, MI; 38 great-great- grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild, Christian M. Barrera; 1 very special niece, Mary L. Jones, Elkhart, IN; 3 very special cousins, Bessie Thompson of Tennessee, Ernest (Johnny Boy) Flowers and Mildred (Rev. Richard) Thompson Clark; 1 goddaughter, Sandra (Timothy) Russ-Lowery; and 1 godson, Willie McKether.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Mary Walker; husband, Clifford W. Banks; sister, Leontine Kemp; brother, Stanley Walker; daughter, Frankie Mae Robinson-Phillips; and her very dear friend, Brooksie Russ.
