Isabell Schwab, 93, passed away April 10, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, after a short illness. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering, Nebraska with Reverend Curtis Hill officiating. The family requests that attendees come in casual attire. Memorials may be made to the Amateur Radio Operators Fund. Isabell was born August 17, 1918, in Rural Smith County Kansas the daughter of Madison Leo and Mary Elizabeth (Bronson) Rice. The family then moved to Franklin County Nebraska and later Bayard, Nebraska. In 1929, the family moved to Hawk Springs, Wyoming, where Isabell started school in the fifth grade. She married Roland Schwab, of Hawk Springs, in 1934. She then graduated high school in 1935. The couple lived and farmed north of Hawk Springs. Isabell attended college in Torrington and received her teaching certificate. She taught Kindergarten and 1st Grade at Yoder, Wyoming for 5 years. In 1955 she became Post Master at the Hawk Springs Post Office. She retired as Post Master of Saratoga, Wyoming. Upon retirement, she moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming and volunteered at the Cheyenne Library. She worked with children there. Isabell has lived in Torrington since 2009.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews; and her special friends Pauline O’Keefe and family of Huntley, Wyoming and Janet Norrod and family of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her brother Warren Emery Rice; and her sisters Minnie Johnson and Luana Busskohl.
