Roger W. Peters, 72, Mandan, passed away on July 19, 2010, at a Bismarck hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Legacy United Methodist Church in Bismarck with Rev. Walter Schott officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Bismarck.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Eastgate Funeral Service where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Roger Wesley Peters was born on January 29, 1938, in Sacramento, CA, the son of Wesley and Dorothy (Ripley) Peters. He was raised and attended schools in Sacramento, and graduated from Sacramento State College in 1964.
In 1969, Roger met his wife, Yvonne Dietz, while living in Rio Del Mar, CA, and in March 1970, they were married and later moved to North Dakota. Roger worked for the North Dakota State Auditor’s Office and Department of Transportation for 26 years before retiring in 1999.
Roger was an active member of various clubs. He was proud to serve as Boy Scout Scoutmaster, secretary for the Lions Club, and president of Toastmasters. He also served on many church committees and taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church.
Roger was a licensed public accountant, a certified internal auditor, a certified fraud examiner, and served as past-president of Central NODAK Chapter of Internal Auditors. He ran his own tax preparation business for over 50 years. Many of his clients became his friends. His daughter, Amy, worked alongside Roger as partner, helping with tax preparation for the last ten years.
He was an avid history buff, especially Civil War history, and had a passion for reading. Roger loved cross county skiing and model soldiers. He also loved model trains, completing several train layouts for his grandsons, Matthew and Kenton. His special time was going on nature walks with his children, Godchild, Ashlee, and grandsons, Matthew and Kenton, and hunting with his brothers-in-law.
Roger is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yvonne of Mandan; his son, Brian (Susie) Peters; his daughter, Amy (Kevin) Glovich; his grandsons, Matthew Peters and Kenton Glovich, all of Bismarck; his brother, Ken (Betty) of Lodi, CA; his sister, Kathy Vermillion of Bakersfield, CA; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dianne and Frank Lester of Washburn, ND, Pat Dietz of Hudson, WI, Gary and Margo Dietz, Deb Larson, Tom and Nancy Dietz, Susie Herr, Debi and Gary Bentley, Jeff and Peggy Dietz, and Brenda and Bob Schmidt, all of Bismarck; his Goddaughters, Ashlee Schmidt and Melissa Herr-Valburg; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Dorothy; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Emma Dietz; and his brothers-in-law, Ray Vermillion, Ron Dietz, and Jim Dietz.
