Jack R. Jarrell, 84, of Ft. Smith passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009 at St. Edwards Mercy Hospital. He was born October 20, 1924 in Abilene, Texas. He was proceeded in death by his parents Don and Laura (Mom and Pop) Jarrell and brother Norman Jarrell of El Paso, Texas.
Graveside funeral service will be at 2pm Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at US National Cemetery. Burial with Military honors will be at National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne (Mickey) Jarrell; sister DonElla (Donnie) Mechling of Fort Smith; one daughter, Pat Napolitano and husband Charles of Van Buren; three sons Terry and wife Hilda, Bob and wife Teresa, Bill and wife Debbie, all of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Todd Swanson, Terri Hanna, Mike, Kelly, Justin, Kim, and Valerie Jarrell; three great grandchildren, Brooklyn Jarrell, Abby Hanna, and Kaydence Batt.
Jack owned and operated Jacks Skateland on Phoenix Ave, which he built in 1962. Prior to that, his family owned Skateland on Midland Blvd (1946 to 1961). He will be remembered by many that grew up skating over the years.
Jack was a proud veteran of World War II. He served in the Army corps of engineers in France, Belgium, and Germany . He loved and enjoyed his family and also what he considered his extended family, which was all the kids he watched grow up at his skating rink.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends Monday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Edward Mercy Hospice Unit in care of St. Edward Mercy Medical Center.
