Juanita McNeel Watson passed from this life on February 22, 2012 at the age of 94 at Heritage Oaks West in Corsicana, Texas. She was born to Charlie and Myrtle McNeel of Petty’s Chapel, TX on December 15, 1917. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was known for her strength, hard-work and love of friends and family. She was known as MaMa Watson to many that loved her. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Mertens.
Juanita was always involved in crafts and hobbies. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, ceramics, cooking, traveling with her girlfriends, raising parakeets, and spending time with her family. She has left a great legacy of unconditional love for her family.
Juanita is survived by her loving husband of 76 years, Woodrow Watson. They were married May 4, 1935 in Corsicana, TX. They lived most of their lives in the Mertens area. She is survived by her sons Dwayne and his wife, Pat of Mertens, Bronny and his wife, Ruth Ann of Corsicana, and Danny and his wife, Sue of Lorena; grandchildren, Joey Watson of Mertens, Becky Watson Melton and her husband Benny of Frost, Belinda Watson Branstetter and her husband, Brad of Coppell, Stacy Watson Haws and her husband, Josh of Mertens, Janet Watson of Frost, Mark Watson of Corsicana, Matt Watson of College Station, Clint Watson and his wife Cheryl of Wimberley, and Lora Watson Sykora , her husband, Matt of Bruceville; and Deann Miller Manchester and her husband Tom of Coppell, 12 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Walton McNeel and his wife, Betty of Dallas, and sisters, Sue McNeel McKanna of Navarro and Tommie Fields of North Carolina, several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a step mother, Nora Vyers McNeel; an infant daughter, Dena; sister, Ettie Mae Crawford; brothers Arthur McNeel, David McNeel and Paul E. McNeel, and step-sisters, Annette Carl, and Bethel Boruk.
Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday, February 24, 2012 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Services will be 10am Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Grady Cashion and Bro. Bill Honea officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery in Mertens. Pallbearers are grandsons, Joey Watson, Mark Watson, Matt Watson, and Clint Watson; and grandsons-in-law, Benny Melton, Brad Branstetter, Josh Haws and Matt Sykora.
