ST. PAUL, VIRGINIA – Retha Mae Holbrook Townes, 87, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at her home.
She was born in Trammel, Virginia; daughter of the late Charles and Edna Spurgeon Holbrook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Townes, Jr.; two daughters, Teri Vautrin and Rosanne Hall; one son, Charles “Sonny” Townes; and one sister, Ozella Lucas.
She is survived by five daughters, Delores Butz of Cincinnati, Ohio, Malia Kite and husband, Jerry of Castlewood, Virginia, Michelle Domby and husband, Tom of St. Paul, Virginia, Terri Fields and husband, Jerry of Dante, Virginia, and Mary Cross and husband, Randy of Lebanon, Virginia; three sons, William Edward “Bubby” Townes, III and wife, Linda of Johnson City, Tennessee, Gibby Townes of Cleveland, Virginia, and Robbie Townes and wife, Carolyn of Cleveland, Virginia; two brothers, Charles Holbrook, Jr. of Castlewood, Virginia and James Holbrook of Maryland; special daughter-in-law, Debra Townes of Castlewood, Virginia; one son-in-law, Rich Vautrin of Gate City, Virginia; twenty grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two special companion pets, Hootie and Dixie.
Funeral Services for Retha Mae Holbrook Townes will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Woody Scott and Rev. Randy Cross officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009 in Chapel of Love Mausoleum, Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Pallbearers will be B. J. Lasley, Jerry Fields, Jr., C.C. Fields, Shane Townes, Brian Townes, Coaley Townes, William Townes, Matthew Butz, Michael Butz, and Josh Helbert. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Lasley and Harvey Sutherland.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia.
