CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - Sidney Lloyd Burden, Sr., 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at his home.
He was born in Bon-Air, Tennessee; son of the late Oscar and Mary Burden. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II. He retired from Clinchfield Coal Company after 44 years and was a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a member of Fort Gibson United Methodist Church, Castlewood, Virginia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wallace Burden and Edwin Burden; and one sister, Annetta Burden Brawley.
He is survived by his wife Ivaline "Lena” Burden; two sons, Sidney Burden, Jr. and wife, Regena of Abingdon, Virginia and Mike Burden and wife, Eleanor of Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Doris Burden Hillman and husband, Bob of Sumter, South Carolina; two brothers, John Burden of Coeburn, Virginia and Joe Burden and wife, Linda of Farmville, Virginia; three grandsons, Steve Burden and wife, Amanda of Abingdon, Virginia, Jason Burden and wife, Kristie of Lewisburg, North Carolina, and Miles Burden of Pensacola, Florida; three great grandchildren, Ethan Burden, Laklynn Burden, and Kaley Burden; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Sidney Lloyd Burden, Sr. will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Harry Layell officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard, Abingdon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Steve Burden, Jason Burden, Miles Burden, Larry Dingus, Bobby Dingus, and Andrew Burden.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2010 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia.
