CASTLEWOOD, VIRGINIA - C. Edward Hedgepeth , 94, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at his home in Castlewood, Virginia.
C. Edward was born in Freemont, North Carolina, son of the late Alex and Blanche Carver Hedgepeth. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Alma Lee Hedgepeth. He served from 1941 to 1945 in the United States Army as Platoon Commander with the 1269th Engineer Combat Battalion and received a Bronze Star for his time spent in France and Germany during WWII. He was a 1941 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and spent thirty-one years with Clinchfield Coal Company. He was a member of Rings Chapel Baptist Church for over twenty years.
He is survived by one daughter, Margaret Elaine Sutherland and husband, Theodore, of Castlewood, Virginia; one son, Edward Mark Hedgepeth and wife, Martha, of Wilson, North Carolina; one grandson, James Edward Hedgepeth of Wilson, North Carolina; one granddaughter, Rebecca Dyer Sutherland and fiancé, Austin Moody, of Johnson City, Tennessee; one sister, Lorean Davis of Ventress, Louisiana; one brother, Alfred Hedgepeth of Suffolk, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services and Interment for C. Edward Hedgepeth will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2012 in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Tom Anderson officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Virginia National Guard. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
