GRAY, TENNESSEE - Mildred Pauline Skeens, 86, died at 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the home of her daughter, after a lingering illness.
She was born in Dante, Virginia; the only daughter of the late John and Lula Marshall Dean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennie B. Skeens, Sr. in 1988; an infant son, Dennie Skeens, Jr. in 1947; and four brothers, Willie E. Dean, Sr., Oakley L. Dean, Lanvil Dean, and Randolph Dean. She spent her entire live in Russell County until June 10, 2007 when she moved to Gray, Tennessee to live with her daughter because of her declining health. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She and her husband were baptized in 1985 and attended Maple Grove Baptist Church when health permitted.
She is survived by her son, Venice Eugene Skeens and wife, Fredia of Castlewood, Virginia; daughter, Alice Faye Horne and husband, Ray of Gray, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Heather Skeens White and husband, Michael of Chesterfield, Virginia and Eric Skeens of Bristol, Virginia; one great granddaughter, Hayden White; two grand pups, Molly and Cruz; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral Services for Mildred Pauline Skeens will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, Virginia with Rev. Jerry Estep officiating. Committal Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Virginia. Family and Friends will meet at the funeral home and go in procession to the cemetery leaving at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Virginia. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice of Kingsport for all of their care, support and love shown to our Mother during her illness.
