Hugh Marvin Davenport, age 90, of Damascus, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Hermitage Health Center in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee and later resided in Damascus, Virginia. He was a son of the late James Wilburn Davenport and Zora Delaware Davenport. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Canter Davenport. He received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Army having served in World War II and was a decorated veteran having received the Silver and Bronze Stars from the Normandy Invasion. He was a life member of the Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243 in Mountain City, Tennessee and a member of the V. F. W. Mr. Davenport was a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus, Virginia. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Lindsey and her husband, Jerry, of Richmond, Virginia and Martha McVey and her husband, Bill, of Granby, Connecticut; one son, Charles Allen Davenport and his wife, Karen, of Bristol, Tennessee; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Friday, January 16, 2009 in the Garrett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Wilson officiating. Following the funeral service, a Masonic service will be conducted by Taylorsville Masonic Lodge #243. The committal service and interment will be 1:00 P. M. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus, Virginia with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #61. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Caris Hospice, 1409 West Market Street, Suite 106, Johnson City, TN 37604. The family will receive friends from 6-7:15 P.M.
