William McGuffey Hepburn, 80, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born in New Haven Connecticut the son of the late William McGuffey Hepburn and Helen Bridget Hepburn. He was reared in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Hepburn attended Emory University in 1944 and 1945 while in the V-12 program. He served in the US Navy earning his wings at Pensacola, Florida. He graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1948 and received a Masters degree in accounting from the University of Alabama. After receiving his CPA he joined SE Massengill in 1956 and later was employed by Beecham Laboratories, retiring in 1987 as Vice President of Finance.
Survivors include his wife, Fan Hepburn; his daughter, Margaret Handley, her husband Charles and their two daughters, Olivia and Julia Handley, all of Banner Elk, North Carolina; his brother, Andrew Hepburn and his wife Alice of Canton, Georgia; his four sisters, Judy Wirtz of Bozeman, Montana, Mary Burdo of Brattleboro, Vermont, Catherine Hepburn of Townshand, Connecticut, and Lucy Johnson of Alexandria, Virginia; his brother-in-law, Harry Piper and his wife Jacqueline of Bristol and St. Petersburg, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 Saturday evening, February 23, 2008 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be conducted at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 24, 2008 at St. Anne Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy Keeney officiating, with the assistance of Rev. Reed Shell. Pallbearers will be Charles Handley, Bill McRee, Pat Hickie, Ted Wood, Bob Blevins, and Pete Litton. The burial in Glenwood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to any charity of your choice. Mr. Hepburn and his family are in the care of Oakley Cook Funeral Home.
