Charlie Joe Elsea, 77, of Bristol, Tennessee, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 13, 2008. He was born April 20, 1931 in Sullivan County, Tennessee, a son of the late William and Grace Rose Elsea. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army and a member of the U.S. Constabulary. He moved to New Jersey in 1955 and worked for Oneida Paper Products in Clifton, New Jersey and then for Sentinel Bag Company in Brooklyn, New York and returned to Bristol in 1995. He was a member of the Veterans’ Council, U.S. Constabulary Association, and Cross United Methodist Church in Blountville.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Elsea; his daughter, Betty Linke and husband John Paul of Bristol, Tennessee; sons, Charlie Joe “C.J.” Elsea and wife Linda of Bristol, Tennessee, Eugene Elsea and wife Carol of Fairfax, Virginia, and John R. Elsea and wife Nina of Vernon, New Jersey; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother, John L. “Jack” Elsea of Clearwater, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 Monday evening, September 15, 2008 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 8 o’clock in Paul Cook Memorial Chapel with Pastor Bill Rines officiating. The committal and interment will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon in Glenwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be presented by Bristol VFW Honor Guard.
