John Harreld “Pete” Muse, 85, died on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was born on February 8, 1924 to the late Hugh Monroe Muse and Elizabeth Anderton Muse. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hugh M. Muse, Jr.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Doris M. Muse; one daughter, Linda Elizabeth Tagert and husband Bert E. Tagert; and grandchildren, Marilyn Tagert, Stephen Tagert, Joshua Tagert, and Hugh Tagert, all of Bristol, Tennessee.
Pete was a kind and gentle man. He loved and served his family everyday of his life. He was an example to them of a faithful man. He lived his life with compassion and humility. He was so very loved by his family, and will be greatly missed.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and later graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in business. He worked for Memphis Bank and Trust Co. and Appalachian Orthopedic Associates.
He loved to play sports – softball, football, golf, and tennis. However, even more than these, he loved to play with his grandchildren. He was their favorite playmate and greatest fan at their own sporting events. He recently received the Eagle Scout mentoring award from his grandson, Stephen Tagert. He loved music and passed on that love to his daughter and her children.
