Muriel Godsey, 97, of Bluff City, Tennessee, died on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Bristol Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a daughter of the late Willie Quillen and Lillie Moore Quillen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Godsey; daughter Jeanette Greenway; sisters, Nell Cassell and Faye Doran; and brother, Robert Quillen.
She was born on July 13, 1913, in Scott County, Virginia and moved to Bluff City in 1937. She was a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church, where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and nursery worker.
Mrs. Godsey is survived by daughter, Yvonne Baird and her husband Bill of Bluff City, TN; son, Haskell Godsey and his wife Shirley of Piney Flats, TN; son-in-law, Jim Greenway of Bluff City, TN; grandchildren, Dean Baird and wife Jennifer, Mark Baird and wife Linda, Bryan Greenway and wife Lisa, Kenna Ellis and husband Kenneth, and Holly Perry and husband Jeremy; four great grandsons and a great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mildred Johnson of Piney Flats, TN, Barbara Quillen of Bristol, VA, Lillian Rhodes of Dayton, OH, and Mary Jane Lemmon of Dayton, OH; and brother-in-law, Albert "Junior" Godsey of Dayton, OH.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:45 Monday evening, August 2, 2010, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and any other time at her residence. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 with Dr. Allen Davis officiating. The committal service and interment will be held at 11:00 Tuesday in New Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Baird, Mark Baird, Bryan Greenway, Curtis Baird, Adam Baird, Will Ellis, Morris Cassell, and Ben Cassell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Piney Flats First Baptist Church, 100 Cherry Road, Piney Flats, TN 37686.
