Dorcas Elizabeth English, age 92, of Newland passed away on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at her residence.
She was born a daughter of the late Charlie N. and Miralda Laws.
Dorcas was a member of Elk Park Christian Church.
She had worked in the lunch room at Elk Park School and was a homemaker.
She enjoyed cooking, reading, crocheting and doing embroidery.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by: a daughter, Mary Eleanor Harmon and companion Jack Norman; and two brothers, Oscar Laws and Luchen Laws.
Dorcas was a very good Mother and Granny who left to cherish her memory: her daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and Bill Ollis of Cranberry; granddaughter, Tammy Baker of Spear; grandson, David Henson and wife Danielle of Cranberry; brothers, Aaron C. Laws of Fort Worth, TX and John Frank Teaster of Banner Elk; great granddaughter, B.J Hughes and husband Corey of Spear and great grandson Carroel Baker also of Spear; step-great granddaughter, Becky Baker Loftis.
Funeral services for Mrs. English will be held on Friday July 31st at 8:00 p.m. in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until the service hour. Mr. Palma Bennett will officiate and music will be under the direction of Sandy Stafford. Interment will take place on Saturday August 1st at 10:00 a.m. in the Belview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Keith Laws, Reo Griffith, Chris Laws, Jason Brown, Corey Hughes, Bryan Griffith and Jonnie Ollis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elk Park Christian Church in memory of Dorcas at PO Box 158 Elk Park, NC 28622.
