Mary Louise Pritchett, age 95, of Banner Elk, NC passed peacefully away on Monday July 18, 2011, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, North Carolina. She was born March 20, 1916, in Roberdell, NC (Eastern North Carolina) the daughter of the late William Thomas Wicker and Rena Whitlock Wicker. Mary Louise was a graduate of Montreat College, Montreat, NC, and Grace Hospital School of Nursing, Banner Elk, NC. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Grace Hospital for many years, and later became an instructor for a School of Licensed Practical Nurses that served the hospital. Mary Louise was the Lees McRae College nurse for several years. After this she worked at the college both as a receptionist and telephone operator in the “Rockhouse,” and in the Lees McRae College Library at the front desk until she was 78 years old, at which time she retired. Mary Louise was a member of the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church where in her younger years she was active in the church. She served the church as a Sunday School Teacher, a Bible School Teacher, a member of the Women of the Church and church circles serving in several capacities, even as President of the Women of the Church for at least one term. She loved flowers and on a number of occasions took flowers to the church from her yard for the church services. Mary Louise enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, crafts, flowers and talking on the phone with her friends. Mary Louise has touched the lives of many people during her lifetime.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, James Byron Pritchett; a younger brother, William C. Wicker; and a grandson, Tully Parrish.
Mary Louise left many who will cherish her memory including two daughters, Patricia Ann Parrish and husband T.J. of Waverly, GA., and Martha Pritchett Burns of Danville, VA; six grandchildren, Heather Parrish Laumeyer, Cathy Parrish Cox , and Jackie Parrish Mobley, Kevin Lee Burns, M.D., Keith Douglas Burns, and Kent Allen Burns; 14 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Services for Mary Louise Pritchett will be privately conducted at a later date.
