Harold Eugene Fleck, age 82, of the Old Beech Mountain Community and also of Port Orange, FL passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2011after a brief illness in a Port Orange, FL. hospital.
Harold was born October 19, 1928 in Altoona, PA. a son of the late James Ramey & Matilda Fleck.
He served in the United States Navy from 1946 - 1949 during WWII on the USS Charles S. Sperry DD-697 and he also served on the USS William R. Rush DD-714 and was a member of the American Legion.
Harold received his Bachelor Degree at the University of Houston and retired after 35 years from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canavarel as an engineer.
He was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and playing his clarinet.
Along with parents, he was preceded in death by his: wife, Luell Dickson Fleck; brothers, LeVan Fleck and Bob Fleck; sister, Helen Fleck; and grandson, Anthony Fleck.
Harold has left to cherish his memory: his sons, Van Fleck and wife Terri of Port Orange, FL. and Jim "Jimbo" Fleck and special friend, Victoria Bizzarro and her daughter, Maria of Daytona Beach, FL.; sister, Barbara "Janie" Hall also of Daytona Beach, FL.; extended Florida family, Roy Marshall and Dave Brown; extended Avery County family, Chip and Mary Nell Tucker, Levi and Lance Harmon, Daniel Pritchard, Erika and Jeff McLean, Kelsey Clark, Marty Clark, Cane Wise, Flora Sutherland, Jessica Miller, Leshannondell Calonahaskie and Emily Turbyfill.
A memorial service for Harold Eugene Fleck will be Wednesday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. at Beech Mountain Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beech Mountain Baptist Church.
