Barry Clyde Spratt, 63, of Marion went to spend eternity with Jesus Friday, Sept. 9, 2011 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Phyllis Spratt and his son, Tracy Spratt.
He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Lucia Spratt. He was the light of her life, her soulmate, and her best friend. Also survived by his sons, Scott Spratt of Marion and Jimmy Shomaker of Marion; Daughters, Leah Shomaker of Nebo and Mary Ruppe and husband, Phillip of Marion; Special daughter, Amanda Taylor of Nebo; Grandsons, Levi Michael Pittman and Jameson Young Taylor; Granddaughter, Callie Elizabeth Spratt of Marion; Sister, Revonda Spratt of Inman, S.C.; And many special relatives, friends, and former students.
Barry was a deacon at Minneapolis Christian Church and dearly loved his church family.
He was an ASE Certified Master Mechanic, employed at McDowell Technical Community College as the Auto Systems Technology Instructor for nearly 25 years. Here he trained, inspired, and befriended loyally many of his devoted students.
Barry was an active member of Camp # 379 of The Sons of the Confederate Veterans. When he wasn’t at home, you could find him researching history and genealogy, civil war grave-hunting, collecting food for the food bank, or contributing in any other way possible to this passion.
He was an avid race car driver in his earlier years and still never missed watching a race in person or on television.
Barry (Bubba) is now in Heaven watching over his very special grandson and best bud, Levi. Together they enjoyed history, the Outer Banks, nature, shooting at the Carolina West Shooting Club, going out to breakfast regularly, and any other activity the two comrades could scheme up.
The family will receive friends Monday, Sept 12th from 6:00-8:00 at Grace Community Church on Hwy 70 west. The Funeral will be held
Tuesday, Sept. 13th at 2:00 at Minneapolis Christian Church with a short visitation beginning prior at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barry’s name to Camp #379 of SCV.
