Charles "Charlie" A. Burleson, age 62, of Beech Mountain passed away on Wednesday November 30, 2011 at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Avery County, he was born a son of the late Jason E. Burleson and Georgia Woody Burleson of Spruce Pine.
Charlie received his Bachelors Degree at Appalachian State University and taught High School Biology and Woodworking. He was General Manager for the Holiday Inn of Banner Elk and then went into Real Estate. He was a member of the High Country Association of Realtors and was named Realtor of the Year in 1991. He served as President, Treasurer and State Director for the High County Association of Realtors and Vice President of the North Carolina State Association of Realtors. He served on the Beech Mountain Town Council for two terms and was a member of the Board of Regents at Liberty University.
He was a member of Banner Elk Christian Fellowship where he served as Elder and Sunday School Teacher.
Along with his mother, Charlie has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Judy Buchanan Burleson of the home; stepdaughter, Shannon Aldridge of Jefferson; stepson, Shawn Aldridge of Elk Park; brother, Kenneth Burleson of Hickory; sister-in-law, Susan Pittman of Newland; step granddaughter, Sierra Aldridge; several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Charlie A. Burleson will be conducted on Saturday, December 3rd at Banner Elk Christian Church 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carl Clawson officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2nd from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty University in Lynchberg, VA or to the Banner Elk Christian Fellowship at 140 Woods Lane Banner Elk, NC 28604.
