Esther Bell Henson, age 92, of Newland passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at her residence.
A native of Avery County, she was born December 23, 1919 a daughter of the late Wheeler and Rosa Pritchard Mayberry.
Esther was a homemaker and a life long member of Cranberry Baptist Church where she was honored as Mother of the Year in 2007.
She enjoyed reading her Bible and was a big supporter of Feed the Hungry.
Along with her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her: husband of 62 years, John Henry Henson in 1997; sons, Joe Bill Henson in 1936, Dwight Henson in 1998, Teddy Henson in 2011; daughter, Rosalie McCoury in 2009; grandson, Little Bill Hampton in 2000, Tony Hughes in 2005; great Grandson, Austin Jones in 2005; four sisters; four brothers.
A very loving and caring, wife, mother, Granny and daughter, a woman of true grit, Esther has left to cherish her memory her: daughters and sons-in-law, Henrietta and Harold Hughes of Kingsport, Lila and R.L. Street of Roan Mountain; brother, Tommy Mayberry; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Esther Bell Henson will be conducted on Thursday, February 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Cranberry Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Cranberry Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cranberry Baptist Church.
