Clarke Buck

   Mr. Clarke Buck, 67, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2008 in Newland, NC.

    Clarke was a lifelong resident of Roan Mountain, Tennessee except for the past several years when he made his home at the Heritage of Sugar Mountain Assisted Living Facility in Newland, NC. He was the son of the late Wheeler and Bonnie Buck. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

   Clarke was the official “door greeter” at Heritage. His favorite thing was his job of handing out the Avery Journal Newspaper to everyone at Heritage. He also loved going to church at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newland, NC where he was a member. He worked at Yellow Mountain Enterprises a few hours each day and really enjoyed his job. His other loves were, “bingo night”, bowling, competing in the Special Olympics in which he had won many trophies. He also loved reading the Elizabethton Star Newspaper, watching the U.T. Vols girl’s basketball team on TV and his puzzle books.

   Clarke is survived by four brothers and three sisters, Harvey Buck and his wife, Lois; Herbert Buck; Gene Buck and his wife, Shelia, all of Roan Mountain; Edward Buck and his wife Irene, Vinton, VA; Mozella Wallenfeltz and her husband Fred, Front Royal, VA; Frankie Hodge and her husband, R.J. of Roan Mountain and Frances McCoury, Newland, NC. Several nieces and nephews and his special friend, Morris Brown, also a resident of Heritage, also survive.

    The funeral service for Clarke will be conducted on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 7:00 PM at the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 -7:00 PM on Saturday prior to the service and at the homes of his brothers, Harvey and Herbert at other times. 

   The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Buck Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.
