Harrison David Buchanan, Jr., 72, of Bluff City, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. He has been reunited with his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Webb Buchanan, who passed away September 7, 2009. A native of Lenoir, NC, he was a son of the late Harrison David Buchanan, Sr. and Nell Dora Hardin Buchanan.
Mr. Buchanan worked as a millwright at Ford Motor Company’s Rouge Plant in Dearborn, MI. He retired following 32 years of service and moved back to Bluff City in 1996. He was a member of Mt. Holston Baptist Church.
Mr. Buchanan had a love for reading. He also enjoyed traveling, listening to public radio broadcasts and working crossword puzzles, but most of all, he simply enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Buchanan is survived by one son, Joel Buchanan, and wife, Anne, of Trenton, MI; one daughter, Janet J. Buchanan, Bluff City; two granddaughters, Amanda Lawson, Bluff City, and Caitlin Buchanan, Trenton, MI; one grandson, Harrison Buchanan, III, Trenton, MI; one great-grandson, Michael Alexander, Bluff City; two brothers, Douglas Buchanan, and wife, Doris Ann, and Frank Buchanan and wife, Diane, all of Bluff City; and two aunts, Jo Ann Moody, Boone, NC, and Maggie Buchanan, Bluff City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Buchanan will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel, with Pastor Mike Pope and Pastor Ray Hardin officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. prior to the service in the funeral home chapel or at the residence other times. A graveside and inurnment service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in the McKinney Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 A.M. Wednesday to travel in procession to the cemetery.
