JUANITA CUTSHALL PERRY, age 93, of Johnson City, TN, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008, at her residence.
Juanita was a native of North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late B. Chester and Lavada Shelton Cutshall.
She was preceded in death by her husbands Raymond D. Johnson in 1947 and Balsom V. Perry in 1968; her three brothers, Jack F. Cutshall and his wife Annette; Lt. Edward N. Cutshall; D. Blaine Cutshall and his wife Billie Anne; one sister, Willie M. Graybeal and her husband Laverne; and a great-granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Snapp.
She joined First Presbyterian Church in 1969 where she was the President, Secretary, and Treasurer for the Women's Bible Class. She moved her membership to Cherokee United Methodist Church in 2003.
Survivors include one daughter, Billie Jacqueline "Jackie" Stephens, Johnson City, TN; one sister, Wenona B. Cousins and her husband Stanley E. of Detroit, Michigan; one brother, Capt. James J. Cutshall and his wife Emmi H. of Stonewall, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Michael R. Snapp and his wife Debbie, Terri Lynn Willis, and Scott R. Snapp, Sr. and his wife Becky all of Johnson City, Tennessee; six great-grandchildren, Joseph "Joe" Willis, Kelsey Snapp, Lacy Snapp, Scott Snapp, Jr., Lucas Snapp, and Dylan Snapp and two great-great-grandsons, Clayton Willis and Cameron Miller. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Juanita was an Honorary Veteran's Administration Volunteer Services Representative, serving 62 years from 1946 - 2008 as a volunteer when the Tennessee Post Department President recommended in indefinite "Honoray Status" be presented to Juanita for her outstanding service and dedication to all Veterans. Some of the older veterans at Mountain Home VA Hospital named her "Little Sweetheart of Mountain Home."
Mrs. Juanita Perry was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Post 224. She served as President, Secretary, and Treasurer a number of times.
She was a charter member of the American Business Woman's Association Post 1132. She named the Association the Franklin Chapter in 1963.
She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2108.
Juanita was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #24 serving three years as President, twelve years as Secretary, and four years as Treasurer. She served as First District President for two years. Also, she served as State Chaplain for one year and one year as State Poppy Chairman.
Juanita was a member of the Tennessee Federation of Republican Women's Club. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Post 622 where she served one year as Chaplain and Chairman of Mooseheart of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary Post 622. During September 2007, Juanita was presented a "Certificate of Award" by the National Federation of Republican Women. This was a first place award in Caring for America.
She was also a member of the Military Order of Ladies Auxiliary Post 9. She served as Auxiliary President, First District President, Secretary and Treasurer for the Tennessee chapter.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Perry will be held on Thursday, March 27th at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Rev. Michelle Buckles officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. prior to the service. The Graveside Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Scott Snapp, Sr., Dylan Snapp, Scott Snapp, Jr., Lucas Snapp, Jim Cutshall, Dr. Ken Cutshall, Joe Willis, and Mike Snapp. Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Broyles, Dr. Phil Roe, Frank Hawkins, Chancellor Richard Johnson, State Senator Rusty Crowe, 1st District Congressman David Davis, Members of VFW Post #2108, American Legion, Robert Bailey, VA Volunteer Services, WCRW, and Cherokee United Methodist Church.
Special thanks to Dr. Amy Armentrout for her very kind and loving care as well as the nurses and aides on the Stroke Ward at Johnson City Medical Center, ICU, and JCMC Hospice.
Her family expresses appreciation and love to family members Emmi Cutshall, Becky Snapp, and special friends Gennie Basher and Lynne Wood.
