James M. Kinder, 67, of Unicoi, TN, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the Veteran’s Association Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. A resident of Unicoi County since 1989, James was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Myron C. and Nellie Mable James. He graduated from South High School, Youngstown, Ohio in 1958.
In 1964, James married the former Mary Lou Richards, daughter of Ralph W. and Florence Richards, in Youngstown, Ohio. Mary Lou was born in Erwin in 1941 where Ralph was associated with the Clinchfield YMCA.
Also in 1964, James joined the United States Air Force, Strategic Air Command and served as a Radar Navigator in both the B-52 and FB-111 aircraft with several overseas tours in Vietnam, Thailand, Guam and Japan. He was stationed at Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Omaha, Nebraska where he retired in 1985 as a Lt. Colonel. James was hired as a government consultant with EOS Technologies in Omaha for a period of three years after which he moved to Unicoi County, TN.
Surviving him are his wife of forty-four years, Mary Lou; daughter, Julie Ann Kinder-Gilg of Johnson City, TN; son, Jeffrey (Amy) James Kinder of Spartanburg, S.C.; daughter, Jodi (Steven) Lynn Jenkins of Kingsport, TN; sister, Marcia McCabe of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Carol (Butch) Hartwig of Tempe, AZ; sister-in-law, Joann Kinder of Chandler, AZ; sister-in-law, Peggy Richards of Poland, OH; brother-in-law Bob (Jo Anne) Richards of Long Meadow, MA; and seven lovely granddaughters, Megan & Melina Gilg, Katelin & Kassidy Kinder, Melissa, Abigail & Rachel Jenkins.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, William Kinder of Chandler, AZ; and brother-in-law, Jack Richards, of Poland, OH.
A private memorial service will be held.
