Willa Jean Oaks, 80, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2009. She fought a good fight and kept the faith. Born in Elk Park, NC, she was the daughter of the late Eli London and Millie Morgan Henson.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church in Erwin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd William Oaks in 1998; sisters, Mildred Vaughn, Rosa Nell Laws, Margaret Addison, Mary Etta Petterson; brother, John Henson; grandchildren, Ricky Oaks and Tracy Oaks; and great-grandchild, Britany Johnson.
She is survived by five sons: Kenneth Oaks and wife Jane of Jonesborough, Samuel Oaks of Johnson City, Roger Oaks and wife Linda of Unicoi, Ronnie Oaks and wife Linda of Johnson City and Jerry Oaks and wife Leisa of Erwin; three sisters: Christine Metcalf and husband Herbert of Boynton, FL, Jackie Connors and husband Ron of Sarasota, FL and Betty Jo Debity of Johnson City; brother: Jimmy Henson and wife Grayton of Elizabethton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Ernestine Day and Ron Foster.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday at 7:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff and Rev. Monroe Willis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM prior to the service. A committal service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 PM in Snyder Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be chosen from grandchildren and friends. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 for procession.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Dr., Suite 356, Johnson City, TN 37604.
