Carlton Janeway, 72, of Gray, passed away on November 24, 2009, at his residence after a grueling, yet courageous, battle with cancer. Born in Bridgeport, AL, he was the son of the late Alton Nathaniel and Maybelle White Janeway.
Mr. Janeway was a member of Grace Fellowship Church.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Kraft Foods after thirty-five years.
Known as an avid golfer, he also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Janeway of Gray; daughter, Karla Sommerfield and husband Chuck of Cincinnati, OH; son, Hal Janeway and wife Paige of Johnson City; sisters, Joyce Allen of Atlanta, GA, Geri Foulks, Wanda Smith and husband Sandy, and Norma Taylor and husband Kenneth, all of Chattanooga; brothers, Arnold Janeway and wife Eleanor of Chattanooga and Alton Janeway and wife Coleen of New Jersey; step-mother, Wanda Janeway; grandchildren, Greyson, Grant, and Graham Janeway, Karley and Kendyl Sommerfield; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday at 3:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral Services with Pastor Tom Oyler officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will be Barry Janeway, Doug Janeway, Benson Scott, Clay Scott, Scott Bailey, and Mark Massey. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM for procession to the cemetery.
