Janice Phillips Woodby Castle, age 80 of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2011. Janice was a native of Unicoi County and the daughter of the late Vaughn and Mamie Treadway Phillips.
Janice was a homemaker. She was the past President and Secretary of the Auxiliary VFW and an active Democrat in Washington County.
In addition to her parents Janice was preceded in death by her husband John Castle and one brother Doyle Phillips.
Survivors include her son Michael Woodby and his wife Karen, Jonesborough; two grandchildren Erin Evans and her husband Greg and Kirstie Woodby; one great grandchild Mary Emma Evans, all of Johnson City; two sisters Shirley Fender and her husband Conley, Unicoi, and Joyce Simmons, Johnson City; three brothers Bill Phillips, Johnson City, Jimmy Phillips and his wife Judy, and Michael “Bobby” Phillips and his wife Betsy, all of Unicoi. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Janice Phillips Woodby Castle will be conducted at 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 16, 2011 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City, with Pastor Chuck Griffin and Pastor Kenneth Grindstaff officiating. The family will greet friends Sunday in the funeral home chapel from 4:00 PM till the service hour.
Graveside and Internment service will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family asks that everyone meet at Tetrick Funeral Services at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Nursing Staff of Appalachian Christian Village for the unconditional care and support that was shown to Mrs. Castle and her family during there time of need.
