James Ralph Penix, 76, Piney Flats, entered into rest, Monday, January 30, 2012 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN. Mr. Penix was a native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County. He was a son of the late J.J. and Sue Baker Penix and was also preceded in death by five brothers, Buddy Wayne, T.B., Donnie, Noah and Olin Penix. Mr. Penix was a member of New Hope Church of Christ and the Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department. He was a self-employed farmer and construction worker. Mr. Penix leaves his wife, Gay Williams Penix, of the home, two daughters, Lorie Ann Nelson and Tonya Lowe both of Piney Flats and one son, Darrell Penix of Mobile, Al, two sisters, Anna Godsey, Watauga and Emma Sue Parks, Piney Flats; one brother, Gene Penix, Piney Flats; two grandsons, five granddaughters and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the home at any time and from 6:00 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2012 until a Celebration of Life Service at 8:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services, Johnson City. Mr. Paul Peer, minister, and Reverend T.J. Parks will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at Shell Cemetery, Piney Flats. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mark Hensley, Terry Jones, Johnny Smith, Bill Smith, Mark Sant and Harold Barnes.
