(Robert) Bruce Jackson

BRUCE JACKSON, DVM, age 67, of Lilburn, GA passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Embracing Hospice in Snellville, GA.  With the help of caring staff at Longstreet Cancer Clinic in Gainesville, GA, he fought prostrate cancer with grace and strength for more than 5 years.  Dr. Jackson was born on April 23, 1942 in Dover, Delaware and was preceded in death by his parents, Arlington and Dorothy Jackson.  He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Janice Matthews Jackson, of Lilburn, GA; daughters Sheri Jackson McLoughlin of Portland, OR and Aimee Jackson Gross of Roswell, GA; sons-in-law, Dr. Sean McLoughlin and Rev. Michael Gross; grandchildren Katie (12), Ellie (8) and Jackson (5) McLoughlin of Portland, OR and Amelia and Maya Gross (4) of Roswell, GA; sister and brother-in-law Sandy and John Norton of Thornton, PA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jimmy and Dianne Matthews of LaGrange, GA; nieces Merritt Nudy, Kelli Norton, Kim Skiff and Kitty Crawford; and a world of wonderful friends.  Bruce (Poppa) was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was an active member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, GA, where he has served as a deacon and leader in his Sunday School.  He knew from the age of 14 that he wanted to be a veterinarian and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia.  Dr. Jackson was a devoted veterinarian for 38 years and owner for more than 20 years at Dearborn Animal Hospital in Decatur, GA.  He also served as a veterinarian in the armed forces at Little Rock Air Force Base in Little Rock, AR.  He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Georgia Veterinary Medical Association (GVMA) and the Greater Atlanta Veterinary Medical Association (GAVMA).  The Service Celebrating the Life of Dr. Jackson will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, 5901 Hugh Howell Rd., Stone Mountain, GA 30087 with Dr. Robert Browning and Dr. J. Truett Gannon officiating. Entombment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends Monday at the funeral home from 10:00AM until 12:00PM.  The Friendship Sunday School class will serve as Honorary Escort and are asked to assemble at the church by 1:30PM.   Memorial contributions may be made to either the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth St. Santa Monica, CA, 90401, 1-800-757-2873 (www.prostatecancerfoundation.org) or Dearborn Animal Hospital Sunshine Fund, 715 E.
