Claude,CW, William Greene, 87, of Spruce Pine, NC passed away Sunday, September 23, 2007, at the Brian Center. He was born September 1, 1920 in Mitchell County, to the late Oscar and Carrie Mae Parsons Greene. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Ida Morgan and Stella Jarrett.
Claude was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Spruce Pine. He served in the Army during WW II. Upon returning from the war he owned and operated an Esso service station from 1945-1947. From 1947-1955 he was co-owner of Aldridge & Greene Ford Motor Company. In 1955 he began Greene Chevrolet and Oldsmobile. He later developed G&H Crushing and Mayland Stone Company. He was also a co-owner in Grassy Creek Golf and Country Club, a grocery store, and a bowling alley. He was a Shriner of the Oasis Temple, past President and Charter member of the Kiwanis Club of Spruce Pine and recipient of the Hyatt Award, and retired from the Spruce Pine Fire Department. Claude was very active in the community serving on many boards and service organizations.
Survivors include his wife Nyla Greene, daughters; Susie and husband Dennis Price of Marion, Sheila and Mac Robinson of Spruce Pine, son; Douglas and wife Phyllis Greene of Spruce Pine, brother, Ted Greene of Spruce Pine, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Spruce Pine with the Rev. Bill Sweetser officiating. The family will receive friends two hour prior to the service. Entombment will be in the Spruce Pine Mausoleum on Thursday, September 27, 2007.
