Edith “Maw” Hinkle, 86 of Spruce Pine passed away Tuesday July 6, 2010 in the Brookside Rehab and Care Center in Burnsville. Born in Avery County she was a daughter of the late Zeb and Minnie Hughes. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist church and loved Gardening and sewing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harry J. Hinkle, a son, Gerald Hinkle, a granddaughter, Jeanna Shipman and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter Betty Barrier and husband Tim of Bakersville, grandson, Cody Hinkle and wife Debbi of Spruce Pine, great grandson, Jacob Hinkle of Boone and a great granddaughter, Della Jo Hinkle also of Boone. She is also survived by three brothers, Vance Hughes of Spruce Pine, Quince Hughes of Bakersville and Ed Hughes of Michigan and one sisters, Nola Hughes of Spruce Pine.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hinkle will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday July 8, 2010 in the Liberty Hill Baptist church with the Revs. B.G. McMahan and David Philbeck officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
