Glenwood - Alvina H. Klyve, age 83, died Saturday, December 15, 2007, at Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Benson with Pastor Matthew Rose officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 18th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Rolling Forks Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Alvina Hazel Gjerdingen, the daughter of Odin and Julia (Skare) Gjerdingen was born on January 10, 1924, in Rolling Forks Township, rural Benson, Minnesota. She attended country school in the Benson area and was a graduate of the Benson High School Class of 1943.
Alvina was united in marriage to Emanuel "Manny" Monson on April 9, 1945, in Benson, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two daughters. Alvina and Manny lived in the Benson area until 1950, when they moved to the Twin Cities. They shared 46 years of marriage before Manny passed away on January 7, 1992.
On September 5, 1992, Alvina was united in marriage to Arne Klyve. The couple made their home in Starbuck, Minnesota. Alvina and Arne shared five years of marriage before Arne passed away on May 19, 1997. After Arne passed away Alvina moved to Glenwood Plaza and resided there until July 5, 2007, when she moved to the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Alvina was employed at Honeywell for 28 years. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Benson and was active in E.L.C.A. & Charity Circle and a delegate for the Glenwood Retirement Village Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, swimming, cooking, baking, especially breads and cookies, and making lefse with her friend Hazel.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marlene (Ed) Wojciak of Columbia Heights, MN, and DeAnn (John) Holmes of Plymouth, MN; 4 grandchildren, John Holmes Jr. and his special friend Nicole, Debbie (Jason) Williams, Jeff (Lisa) Holmes, and Steve (Jodi) Wojciak; 7 great-grandchildren, Darrin, Abbie, Adam, Joe, Bailey, Dalton, and Jake; two step-daughters, Annette (Scott) Behrends of Buffalo, MN, and Marlys Sorenson of Ramsey, MN; two step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Mae (Duane) Neuhaus; brother, Harris (Doris) Gjerdingen; sister-in-law, Lois Gjerdingen; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alvina is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Manny and Arne, and her brother, Orville Gjerdingen.
