Esther V. Vold was born on a farm in Glenwood Township, MN, on May 24, 1911, to Elling and Anna (Austvold) Vold. She grew up on a farm with eight brothers and sisters. She was baptized in June of 1911 and confirmed in August of 1926 at Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1930 and from Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in 1933. On August 8, 1936, she married Ingman Femrite and to this union were born six children - - Dorothy, Ruth, Diane, Ralph, Janet and Joyce.
Esther was a lifetime resident of Glenwood, Minnesota where she was a homemaker. She spent most of her life giving to her husband, children and church. She was active in the Boy and Girl Scout Programs, Band Boosters, Sons of Norway, school vaccination programs, and the Parent Teacher Association. She taught Sunday School, was an active member of Ladies Aid and Church Circles, and especially enjoyed helping with weddings at Glenwood Lutheran Church.
She loved to travel and visited Germany, the Holy Land, and China. She also spent time in countries where her children and grandchildren lived including Switzerland and the Philippines. Additionally, she traveled to many areas of the United States to visit family.
She instilled in her children the importance of education, responsibility, her Christian faith and moral values. It was extremely important to her that all of her children receive education beyond High School. She was very pleased to see each of her children attain that goal. One of her greatest legacies is that these values have been carried on into the next generation of her family. It is for her devotion to her Christian faith, family, education, and moral values that she would be most pleased to be remembered.
Esther is survived by her 6 children, Dorothy (Dallas) Nelson of Gardnerville, NV, Ruth (Marlin) Torgerson of Hutchinson, MN, Diane (Robert) Peterson of Austin, TX, Ralph (Tommi) Femrite of Colorado Springs, CO, Janet Barker of Boise, ID, and Joyce (Larry) Lomel of Arlington, TX; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth (Chris) Feste of Minneapolis, MN; and her sister-in-law, Sally Femrite of Glenwood, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ingman in 1979; 3 brothers, Engebret (Brick), Erling and Harold; and 4 sisters, Milla Lien, Alice Wilberg, Lizzie Anderson and Sophie Hauge.
