Glenwood - Marvin Milas, age 84 died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center, Lakeview in Glenwood. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 21st at 1:00 P.M. at Glenwood Lutheran Church, Glenwood, MN, with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will take place at the church, one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood, MN. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Marvin M. Milas was born December 20, 1923 to Otto and Rosine (Eider) Milas in Fessenden, North Dakota. He attended country school in North Dakota. On August 26, 1943, Marvin entered active military service in the United States Navy. He served his country during WWII. Marvin received an honorable discharge on February 16, 1946. After his military service Marvin was employed with the Soo Line Railroad. He worked in Drake, North Dakota and Steven's Point, Wisconsin, before making his home in Glenwood in the 1970's. He worked for the railroad for 33 years until his retirement in 1983.
On August 24, 1955, Marvin was united in marriage to Jeanne Greenwood at St. Margaret's Rectory in Drake, North Dakota. This marriage was blessed with two children. They shared 19 years of marriage before Jeanne passed away on November 2, 1974.
Marvin enjoyed gardening, canning pickles and tomatoes, playing cards, and working on his house. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marvin will be remembered as a tenacious and caring man who enjoyed to joke around and was always there for anyone who needed anything.
He is survived by his son, Bruce (Ruth) Milas of Moorhead, MN; daughter, Rosemary Forsberg of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Christine (Nichael) Hale, Tom (Sara) Milas, Andy Milas and Charles Milas; great-grandchildren, Jason, Alexis and Madison Milas; sister, Virginia Frieson of Bismark, ND; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanne; brother, Earl Milas and sister, Ruth Milas.
