Lavone Amundson, age 74, of rural Glenwood, MN, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 7th, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls, with Pastor Ron Hanson officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Rolling Forks Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, MN.
Lavone Lois Ellison, daughter of Carl and Avis (Ponsler) Ellison, was born in Wisconsin on December 30, 1934. She grew up in Wisconsin and attended Osceola High School. Following graduation, Lavone was employed at Shed Brown Publishing in Minneapolis, MN. While living in Minneapolis she met Arthur Amundson. The two were married on September 29, 1962 in Wisconsin. Following their marriage they settled down on Arthur's family's farm in Rolling Forks Township, near Glenwood, MN, where they raised their family and lived out their entire married life. Lavone served as Church Secretary at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for over 25 years and was an active member of their Ladies Aide.
Her hobbies included tending her 1/2 acre garden, crocheting and collecting glass figurines. She was known for her canned pickles, which she generously shared with friends, as well as supplying afghans to everyone she knew who got married or had a baby. Lavone was a proud grandmother who very much enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and had a special place in her heart for her cocker spaniel, Ginger. Family and friends will always remember Lavone as someone who selflessly put others ahead of herself.
Lavone is survived by her husband, Arthur; her sons, Eric (Diane) Amundson of Clarkfield, MN, Lorne (Paige) Amundson of Swift Falls, MN, and Kris (Trudi) Amundson of Sunburg, MN; 8 grandchildren, Derek, Kyle, Cody (special friend, Anna and her sons, Eyan and Dylan), Caitlin, Brady, Heather (special friend, Nathan Mast), Holli (special friend, Kraig Rood) and Mitchell; one great-grandchild, Bryce Mast; 2 sisters-in-law, Nancy Ellison and Lorraine Amundson; a niece, Elsa (Greg) Kelm of Wanamingo, MN; a great-niece, Malena; and 3 great-nephews, Christian, Joseph and Joshua.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Charles Ellison and Eldon Ellison; a brother-in-law, Tilmer Amundson; and 2 sisters-in-law, Ruby (Glen) Simmons and Arlene (Luverne) Kolstad.
