Anna Husmann, age 101, of Glenwood, died, surrounded by family, on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Glenwood Villiage Care Center in Glenwood. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. Private family burial will take place prior to the service in Lake Amelia Cemetery near Villard. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Anna Johnson Husmann was born March 8, 1908 in Lyon County, Iowa to Sweer and Anna (Wilts) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Heinie Husmann on February 8,1929 at George, Iowa. They farmed in Northwestern Iowa before moving to Villard, Minnesota in 1944. Her husband passed away in 1955 and Anna continued to live on the farm until moving into Villard in 1969. She was employed at various places in the area while living in Villard. Due to failing health she moved to Ridgewood Villa in Glenwood in 2001, then to Parkview Court in 2004 then to the Glenwood Retirement Village where she resided until her death.
Anna enjoyed working in her flower gardens and sharing her flowers with friend and neighbors. A large vegetable garden was also important to her, as well as growing strawberries which she also enjoyed sharing. Anna?s Bible Study Group was also important to her. It was started with some of her friends meeting in their homes and they continued to meet at her places of residence when she moved Glenwood.
Anna is survived by six sons, Harry (Eva) Husmann of St. Joseph, Michigan; Andy (Donna) Husmann of Muskegan, Michigan; Louis (Joy) Husmann of Clear Lake, Minnesota; Fred (Elaine) Husmann of Springfield, Illinois; David (Marilyn) Husmann of Cannon Falls, Minnesota; Paul (Cora) Husmann of Cold Spring, Minnesota, and by seven daughters, Janet (Robert) Mostad of Osakis; Anna (Donald) Erickson of New Brighton, Minnesota; Nellie (Archie) Anderson of Starbuck; Mavis (Vern) Maanum of Glenwood; Helen (Daniel) Lindsey of Crosby, North Dakota; Grace (Dave) Kvam of Marinette, Wisconsin and Ruth Husmann of Glenwood. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Nell Bruns of George, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Andrew Voss of George, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, four sisters, and an infant daughter.
