Agnes Solveig Simonson was born on her family's farm south of Sedan, MN, on November 17, 1918. She was one of 16 children born to Samson and Anna Marie (Kalland) Simonson and raised on their farm. She attended school district No. 81 through the 8th grade and attended Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian language. She married Orlyn T. Olson on June 19, 1937 and farmed in the Lake Johanna area before moving to Sedan in 1939, where they lived until 1996.
Agnes was very active in Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Brooten where she served as the Sunday School and Bible School Superintendent and as a teacher. She was instrumental in getting the Sedan school to continue to operate so young children could be educated in a smaller environment until they completed the 8th grade. She was also active in the Sedan Senior Citizens Club, serving over 20 years as the group's treasurer. In addition, Agnes served on many election boards and as a RSVP volunteer.
Agnes enjoyed quilting and making many other crafts, which she shared with family and friends. In 1996, she moved to Glenwood and then to Grove Lake, where she lived until 2001, when she moved to Grand Rapids, MN, to be closer to family.
Agnes blessed her family and others who knew her with her wonderful sense of humor. Her laugh was contagious and very good medicine for all. She was also well known for her "Bear" hugs.
Agnes is survived by her 3 children, Delores (Arnold) Christensen of Grand Rapids, MN, Janice Iverson of Blaine, MN, and Donald (Jean) Olson of Appleton, WI; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Lillian Moen of Glenwood, MN, 4 sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orlyn in 1996; her brothers, David, Arthur, Selmer, Olaf, Bennie, Bennie (in infancy) and Sam; her sisters, Selma Thompson, Jeanette VanVickle, Mabel Westrud, Fern Harris, Gladyce Warner, Mary Ann Haldorson and Jean Simonson.
