Carol J. Holtkamp, age 74, of Glenwood, MN, died peacefully, surrounded by love, on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 20th, at West Lake Johanna Lutheran Church, rural Brooten, with Rev. Bryant Kaden officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Brooten and will resume on Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in West Lake Johanna Cemetery, rural Brooten. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten, MN.
Carol Jean Shelstad, daughter of Henry and Lena (Iverson) Shelstad, was born on June 6, 1936 in Kerkhoven Township. On March 3, 1962, she was united in marriage to Charles M. Holtkamp at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten, MN. In 1964, the couple moved to what would become their family farm in Gilchrist Township. Their marriage was blessed with two children, a son, Bryan and a daughter, Rhonda. Carol remained on the farm until the Fall of 2010, when she moved to Parkview Court, where she was a resident at the time of her death.
Her family and friends will miss her awesome cooking and generous gifts and will cherish their fond memories of Carol.
Carol is loved and will be missed by her son, Bryan (Grace) Holtkamp of Glenwood, MN, and daughter, Rhonda (Rob) Mechels of Savage, MN; grandchildren, Danny and Cheryl Holtkamp and Lyle Olson; a sister, Ann (Jim) Turnquist of New London, MN; a brother-in-law, Roger (Maryanne) Holtkamp of Kerkhoven, MN; a sister-in-law Carol Lange; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Carol was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband Charles; parents, Henry and Lena; brothers, Lester, Vernon, Duane and Eldon; and sisters, Jenny Hegg and Muriel Hegg, where her family is sure that Carol is happily creating mouthwatering feasts, planting gardens of breathtaking flowers and vegetables laughing at silly jokes and cheering for the Minnesota Twins.
Casketbearers for the service will be Danny Holtkamp, Karl Holtkamp, Lyle Olson, Barry Hegg, Gary Turnquist and Richard Lang. Tony Sanders will serve as organist and Dr. Randall Pederson will be the soloist.
