Evelyn A. Oeltjen, age 61 of Glenwood, died Saturday, September 10, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 16th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, Sept, 15 at the funeral home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home.
Evelyn Alyce Oeltjen the daughter of Howard and Rosella (Bartos) Oeltjen was born November 26, 1949 in Glenwood. Evelyn grew up on a farm near Villard where she attended elementary school. In November 1959 the family moved to a farm near Lowry. In High School, Evelyn worked at Cliff's Cafe and ran for Waterama princess. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1967. After graduation Evelyn moved to Minneapolis where she worked at JCP Corporate and studied dance. While living in the Cities she also worked as a choreographer. In 1975, Evelyn moved back to the family farm near Lowry. She was employed with Rainbow Cafe, Pope County Highway Department for several years and then for Riley's Construction. Most recently she worked for American Cleaners and Target, both in Alexandria.
Evelyn loved to dance, when she was a teenager she would entertain her younger siblings by dancing for them. She belonged to Minnewaska Show Stoppers for several years. Evelyn also enjoyed painting and jazz music. She passed away September 10, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Evelyn is survived by her mom, Rosella of Glenwood; sisters, Elizabeth (Semi) Sanvig of Trapper Creek, AK, and Johanna (Todd Berg) Henke of Glenwood; brother, John (Becky) Oeltjen of Glenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her father Howard, who passed away just seven days before Evelyn.
