Verny (Alverna Sylvia Thorson) Schumacher was born July 4, 1925, in Rolling Forks Township in Starbuck, MN. She was the daughter of Syverene (Mallum) and Alfred Thorson, and grew up on the family farm south of Starbuck, where she attended school and was a member of East Zion Lutheran Church.
On June 14, 1946, Verny was united in marriage to Wayne Schumacher at East Zion Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MN. The couple made their home on a farm in Leven Township in Glenwood, MN, where they lived together for 62 years, their marriage blessed with four children.
Verny was a wonderful farm wife and mother. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Glenwood, and an active member of the ladies circle. She enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing, fishing, crocheting, embroidering, birdwatching, flower gardening and mowing lawn. She had very special canine companions during her life, Tippy and Missy. They gave her much love and laughter, along with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wayne and Verny traveled to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas every winter for 30 years where they had an extended family and many more friends.
Verny was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease 7 years ago. Each year that passed made it harder and harder for her to interact with family and friends. She became a resident at Minnewaska Lutheran Home on September 3, 2011. She passed away November 28, 2011, when the Lord called her to his Heavenly home.
She is survived by: Children: Amory Anderson (and the late Bruce) of Alexandria; Luayne (Marshall) Jackson of Starbuck and San Juan, Texas; and Marc Schumacher of Brussels, Belgium.
