Paul E. Grigsby, age 71 of Gratton, VA died Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital in Tazewell, VA. He was born December 6, 1940 at Nickelsville, VA and was a son of the late William Edgar and Florlean Salyers Grigsby. Mr. Grigsby was a Graduate of Southwest Virginia Community College, earning an Associate’s Degree in Business and an Associate’s Degree in Mining. He had worked for many years at Bluefield College as Plant Manager. Paul was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, retiring from the Army as a Sergeant First Class with twenty-two years service. However, his devotion to his neighbor, Country and brother veterans did not stop there. Paul was a member of the American Veterans Association Honor Guard, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Vietnam Veterans of America, and the American Legion all for many years; when his health permitted, Paul was in the ranks of the various Honor Guards, paying his respects to a fallen brother. He loved this Great Nation and the freedoms we enjoy; the Flag of our Country, its veterans and he was proud of his service. Mr. Grigsby was of the Holiness faith and was a member of the Grace Full Gospel Church in Adria, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Grigsby; one son, Eddie Ray Grigsby; two brothers, Howard and Luther Grigsby.
Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife, Alice Bradley Grigsby; one son, Michael L. Grigsby of Portland, OR; one sister, Gracie Stiltner and husband, Denver of Grundy, VA; two brothers, Kenneth Grigsby of Dickenson County, VA and Richard Grigsby of Pocahontas, VA; several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends also survive.
Funeral services for Paul E. Grigsby will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverends Danny and Carol Cornwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Phipps Memorial Cemetery at Clintwood, VA. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the American Veterans Association Honor Guard in Richlands, VA.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012.
