Funeral services for Carroll Virgil “Dinky” Johnson of Eagle Bend were held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend with Pastor Gerry Vuchetich of the Eagle Bend United Methodist Church presiding. Dinky passed away at the age of 80 years on October 3, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
Carroll “Dinky” Johnson was born on August 24, 1931 to Charles and Anna (Olson) Johnson at their home near Wrightstown, MN. He attended country school and began his service to our country when he entered the US Army on October 27, 1954. He was honorably discharged as a medical corpsman on August 7, 1956. He returned to work the family farm at rural Eagle Bend and joined the VFW.
Dinky was a farmer. He loved his beef cattle and enjoyed antique tractors and machinery, as well as going to farm auctions and thrashing bees. He enjoyed old time music, playing the accordion, attending community festivals and dancing. He also loved talking on the phone.
Dinky was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Anna; brothers Laurel and Everett; and sisters Evelyn Rohwer, Helen Anderson and Evangeline Otto.
He is survived by his brothers Clinton (Lou Clare) and Donald (Marci); sisters Violet Smith and Maxine Miller; sister-in-law Myrna Johnson; and numerous nieces nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post #280 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post #6318 of Eagle Bend, assisted by members of the MNARNG Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers were all of Carroll’s nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Dave Gosiak, Brian Korteum, Ross Perish, Gary Johnson, Charles Johnson, Larry Johnson, David Anderson and Randy Johnson.
Interment was in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Eagle Bend.
