Funeral services for Ivis Donna Mitchell of Hewitt and formerly of Minneapolis were held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at the Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha with Pastor Keith Puglisi of the New Song Alliance Church of Grand Rapids presiding. Ivis passed away at the age of 78 years on Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Tri County Hospital in Wadena.
Ivis was born on September 28, 1933 at Bertha to August and Julia (Chase) Branstner. She graduated from Hewitt High School in 1952 and soon after moved to Minneapolis to work with the Our Own Hardware Corporation. She was united in marriage with Gary Lee Mitchell at the Highland Park Church in Minneapolis on November 5, 1954. They made their home in Minneapolis. For health reasons, she returned to the community of her birth in 2010 and moved into the Peaceful Valley Home in Hewitt which is operated by her son and daughter-in-law Rick and Juanita. She then had the opportunity to spend every day with her special brother John whom she had taken special care of for many years.
Ivis was a homemaker and was always entertaining company from near and far. She was active in her North Minneapolis community as an election judge for over 40 years and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary. She had a beautiful flower garden and loved caring for it.
Ivis was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Gary; parents August and Julia Branstner; sisters Bernice Branstner, Judith Branstner, Marie Folkestad, Viola Hauser, and Pearl Ford; brothers Loyd and John; and brothers-in-law Hermie Trosen, Howard Folkestad, Eugene Hauser and Ben Krug.
She is survived by her children Rick (Juanita) of Hewitt and Vickie (Roger) Faulkingham of Oak Grove; grandchildren Luke (Kellie) Mitchell of Hewitt, Melissa (Justin) Werth of Nowthen, Matthew Faulkingham of Oak Grove, and Michael Mitchell of Hewitt; great-grandchildren Cameron Mitchell, Cadence Werth, Taylor Mitchell and Maverick Werth; sisters Verlie (Alvin) Miller of Minneapolis, Nadine Krug of California, Alice Trosen of Verndale, Lila (Hugh) McFarlane of Minneapolis, Orpha (Larry) Carlson of Arizona, and Ruby Hughes of Hutchinson; brother Bill (Glenda) of Oklahoma; sister-in-law Elvira Branstner of California; brother-in law Frank Ford of Aitkin; and many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by family friends Avonne Brown and Carol (Lawrence) Pugsley; friend and roommate at Peaceful Valley Home Carrie Amdahl; family dog Amy, her best friend; the Peaceful Valley Home staff: Martina Hendrickson, Jackie Allen and Carol Pugsley; and especially Jayla Allen and Hannah Bartylla, her two special girls that brought her much love and joy when they visited.
Honorary pallbearers were Cameron Mitchell, Cadence Werth, Taylor Mitchell, Maverick Werth, Jayla Allen and Hannah Bartylla.
Pallbearers were Matthew Faulkingham, Luke Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Justin Werth, Melissa Werth and Kellie Mitchell.
Interment was in the Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis.
