Verna Derby was born the third daughter to Anton and Olga (Lindblad) Anderson on December 19, 1919 in Hewitt, MN. She attended the Hewitt Public School graduating with the class of 1937.
Verna Anderson and Bazil Derby were married on March 4, 1940 at the United Methodist Church in Wadena. They lived on their farm southwest of Verndale where she filled her days caring for her family. In the spring of 1973 they moved into Verndale and then to Fair Oaks in December 2001. She experienced a lifetime of rheumatoid arthritis but always had a smile on her face. She was a member of the Verndale United Methodist Ladies Aid, Country Garden Club in Verndale, and Merry Bellas Homemakers Club. In her free time she enjoyed playing cards, reading, gardening, and visiting with family and friends.
Verna passed away at the age of 92 on March 22, 2012 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. She was preceded in death by her husband Bazil on April 28, 2004; parents Anton and Olga; son Larry; sisters Lillie Gunn and Ruby Rowe. She is survived by her son Gerald of Minocqua, WI; daughter Muriel (Jim) Weber of St. Paul; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Verndale with Pastor Jill Pawlowski presiding. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren Marley Trapp, Macey Trapp, and Aaron Derby. Pallbearers will be Sean Derby, Sydne Trapp, Tim Trapp, Marladene Heinen, Jim Derby, and Dan Osborn. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale.
The family thanks all of the employees of Fair Oaks Lodge who kept Verna smiling.
