James Joseph Drkula was born to Frank and Eleanor (Sobaski) Drkula on December 7, 1936 in South St. Paul, MN
.James served in the United States Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1962. On February 20, 1960, James and Mary Schowalter were united in marriage at St. Augustine Church in South St. Paul. He was a member of the Wadena community for 35 years, where they raised their family and he worked as a computer programmer.
James passed away at the age of 75 on March 29, 2012, at the Elder’s Home in New York Mills. Preceding James in death were his parents Frank and Eleanor.
He is survived by his wife Mary; sons Mark of Rice Lake, WI, Douglas (Toby) of Idaho Falls, ID; daughters Virginia Dull of St. Paul, Reneé (Andrew) Lutz of Turtle Lake, WI, Rebecca (Terry) Haman of New York Mills, Carisa Hensley of Casper, WY, Sara Trout of Fergus Falls, Laura (Donald) Ismil of Verndale, and Mara (Paul) Heath of Onalaska, WI; 28 grandchildren & 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters Geraldine Holland of Wadena, and Mary Helen Chamberlain of Cottage Grove.
The memorial Mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on April 2, 2012, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena, with Father Donald Wagner as celebrant. Honorary pallbearers were James’ grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Terry Haman, Paul Heath, Andrew Lutz, and Donald Ismil. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena, MN. Inurnment was in Calvary Cemetery in Wadena.
