John “Rodney” Anderson was born on September 12, 1930 to Charles and Hannah (Hanson) Anderson in Wadena, MN.
Rodney served as a United States marine from March 18, 1952 until his honorable discharge on March 9, 1954 in San Francisco, CA. He grew up in Crookston and later lived in the Wadena community for over 42 years. He worked as a truck driver and in maintenance at the Peterson-Biddick Company, first in Crookston and then Wadena. When time allowed he went hunting and fishing, and enjoyed woodworking along with time spent with his family. He was a former member of the Wadena Lions Club.
Rodney passed away on April 13, 2012, at the age of 81 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Hannah; daughter Connie Anderson; and brother Chuck Anderson.
He is survived by sons John (Debra) of Bluffton, Michael (Donna) of Finlayson, and Jerome of Wadena; daughters Georgia Toftum (Dennis Benson) of Verndale, Mary (Gerald) Wulf of Wadena, and Deborah Teigen of Fargo; 11 grandchildren & 6 great-grandchildren; brother Bruce of Crookston; and sisters Judy (David) Vick of Mentor, and JoAnn Thorp of Crookston.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on April 18, 2012 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer officiating. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wadena. Honorary pallbearers were Connie Toftum, Pam Wulf, Charlotte Wulf, Brittany Anderson, Lindsey Teigen, Mathew Toftum and Jim Waldahl. Active pallbearers were Stephen Springer, Cory Anderson, Todd Anderson, Ryan Teigen, Andrew Teigen, Gary VanDam, Jeff Toftum and George Kveton. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale.
