Funeral services for Margie Sowder Goepferd of Bertha will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Faith United Church of Christ in Bertha with Pastor Marli Danielson presiding. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM and again on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Margie passed away at the age of 87 years on Saturday May 19, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Henning MN.
Margie was born December 9, 1924 to Clint and Lydia (Ashby) Sowder in Verndale, MN. Margie attended and graduated from Verndale High School. She worked at the movie theatre where she met her true love Harold Goepferd. They were married August 19, 1943. In 1947, they moved to Bertha where they raised their three children.
Margie had a variety of jobs. Her latest was selling Avon. She sold Stanley Home products, waitressed at the River Inn, and worked with Harold operating the Laundromat. She was a life long active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was Department President in 1974. As an active member of The United Church of Christ, she sang for many funerals and other events. She did volunteer calling for church and other organizations. Margie enjoyed sports: especially the MN Twins and Vikings. She also loved to play cards and read. Family and friends enjoyed many hand knit and crocheted items that Marge created.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; sister Louise LaBonte; brothers-in law Jack LaBonte, John Lieder, and Gordon Goepferd; and sisters-in-law Jean Goepferd and Evelyn Goepferd. She is survived by Harold, her loving husband of 68 years; children Cindy Goepferd, Wayne (Cathy) Goepferd, Norma (Al) Tramm; grandchildren Philip (Sabrina)Tramm, Monica (Corry) Goepferd, Linda Tramm, Tim (Heather) Tramm; great-granddaughter Amy Costle; sister Lucille Lieder; brother-in-law Ray Goepferd; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Phil Tramm, Monica Goepferd, Linda Tramm, Tim Tramm, Corry Costle, Bill Goepferd and Collin Goepferd.
Interment will be in the Peace Evangelical Cemetery in Bertha Township.
