Norbert Jacob Ament, Sr. was born to Henry and Clara (Schmeising) Ament on July 7, 1917 in Bluffton, MN.
Norbert lived his entire life in the Wadena County area. He married Teresia Braith. His passion and hobby was farming. He enjoyed life, his family and had a strong faith. He was compassionate and understanding, yet delighted many with his sense of humor – he loved to tease! He endured hardships without complaint. He will truly be missed.
At the age of 94, Norbert passed away on May 26, 2012 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena. He was preceded in death by his wife Teresia; parents Henry and Clara; infant son Jeffrey; brothers Ed and Ray Ament; sister Amelia Schmitz; grandson Matthew Maijala; son-in-law Andy Kern; and daughter-in-law Terry Ament.
Survivors include his sons Norbert Jr. (Dianne) of Sebeka, Jerry (Margaret) of Wadena, Stan (Jean) of Sebeka, and Keith of Nisswa; daughters Terri Kern of Sebeka, Karen (Tony) Mattson and Sheila (Tim) Maijala both of New York Mills; 23 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren & 6 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Leo of Wadena, Andy of Bluffton, George of Idaho, and Tom of Bluffton; sisters Helen Gorghuber and Teresa Goeden both of Wadena, Alice Keppers of Arizona, and Mary Kuntz of Glenwood.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on May 31, 2012, at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Blue Grass with Father Arlie Sowada as celebrant. Burial was in St. Hubert’s Catholic Cemetery in Blue Grass. Honorary pallbearers were the Fair Oaks Lodge Lower Floor Nursing Staff. Norbert’s grandchildren served as pallbearers.
