Memorial graveside services for Noel Lay will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012. Noel passed away on July 6, 2012, at age 85, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN.
Noel C. Lay was born July 9, 1926 in West Fork, MO, to Luther and Viola (Anderson) Lay. At age 6, they moved to Belle Fontaine, MO, to work on a farm. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving during WW II from August 1943 to December 26, 1945, in all four campaigns. He was with the 10th Amtrack Battalion, 4th Marine Division, fighting overseas. In 1946, he joined the U.S. Navy serving until January 1950.
Noel had many jobs, from taxicab driver to security guard at Missouri Botanical Gardens.
Noel married Terry Woolbright in 1958, and they had seven children together.
In 1986, Noel moved to Menahga, MN and from there to Wadena. He drove cars for Mid-State Auto Auction and became a chauffeur for the George Skon family. Noel was known and liked by the many friends he had through Friendly Rider, the McDonald coffee group, Burger King and Walmart. He was always ready with a joke to share or a story to tell.
Noel was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his children Cherri Ann, Chris, Joseph, Jackie, Vickie, Dave and Kimberly; many grandchildren; and his former wife Terry Lay, (PO Box 36, Wappapello, MO, 63966).
