MARCHANT, Mrs. Joanna - Age 74, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at Heritage Manor. Family hour 1 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2011 at God's Tabernacle of Truth, 4056 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 2 p.m. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 1 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Marchant will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday.
Mrs. Joanna Patricia “Sug” Marchant was born January 10, 1937 in Texarkana, Arkansas. She was the youngest of two children by loving Christian parents, the late Alfred Neal and Mable Neal. Joanna accepted Christ at an early age and stayed actively involved until her health declined. Joanna worked at the North Flint Plaza Fair Store in Flint, Michigan and General Motors Fisher Body Turnstedt on Coldwater Road in Flint, Michigan and retired from both employers. Joanna was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She would go out of her way to help others, she loved to cook and feed the neighbors, going shopping, spoiling her grandchildren and telling jokes.
Mrs. Joanna Patricia “Sug” Marchant leaves to cherish sweet memories: two daughters, Valerie (Bobbie) Collins of McDough, GA and Marion Alston of Flint; grandchildren, Robert Marchant of Stockbridge, GA, Ramona (Rodney) Campbell of Raeford, NC, Reginald (Tara) Collins of McDough, GA, Delquita (Toussaint) Bridges of Flint, Adrian (Miscoshia) Boyd of Inkster, MI, Shelitha Brown of Marietta, GA and DeQuandre Alston of Flint; 11 great-grandchildren; mother, Mable Hemmingway of Flint; nieces,(Special Niece – Charlotte Davis), Cheryl Adkins, Sandra (Richard) Cabine-Heller all of Flint, MI; aunt, Blanche Foster of West Monroe, LA; Cousin, (Special Cousin) – Lela Jackson of Detroit, MI.
Mrs. Marchant was preceded in death by her husband, Ramon Marchant; and sister, Doda Cabine.
